Former Trainer of Winter the Dolphin!
Former Edge of Africa Trainer at Busch Gardens Tampa
I grew up in Wisconsin, where my love for animals first took root. My journey with animals began when I was just three years old, fervently persuading my mom to let me bring home a frozen pheasant I had found in the snow. That innate love for animals has guided me throughout my life. With a Bachelor's Degree in psychology, in 2007, I made the big move to Florida to follow my passion for Marine Mammal Training, and I had the incredible opportunity to work as a staff caretaker and trainer for Winter the Dolphin at The Clearwater Marine Aquarium for many years.

My deep connection to animals of all kinds has led me to be devoted to caring for pets of all breeds, ages, and types. So much so that I was able to support myself through my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, taking on the rewarding challenge of caring for cats, dogs, birds, bunnies, reptiles, and fish, each one teaching me something special. Ultimately, this was the journey that led me to enriching experiences at The Clearwater Marine Aquarium as well as Busch Gardens Tampa, to now coming full-circle to find joy once again, in my work as an in-home pet sitter and dog trainer. I will admit that I do have a particular soft spot for cats, and it brings me immense fulfillment to rescue kitties on the euthanasia list through Hillsborough County Animal Services. I have always been a kindred spirit with all animals, but have this deep connection and understanding with felines of all types, shapes, and sizes. They are energetic sponges and sensitive to everything, which is something I love in working with and caring for them. But my heart also feels particularly full when I work with large breed dogs, as I find their gentle giant nature so endearing.

I truly believe that to effectively work with animals, especially beloved pets, you must not just understand the biological history of breeds or have basic knowledge of physiology or general care, but possess an innate ability to read their energy. They will always tell you what they want and need without speaking a word in their language, but through their body posture and behavior. Being able to observe, read their energy, and truly understand that is something that I have always naturally excelled at.

During my free time, I cherish spending moments outdoors, whether it’s saltwater fly-fishing or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. I also love writing, art, music, and prioritizing health and wellness. I’m particularly grateful for my incredibly supportive husband, who shares my love for animals and works as a contractor for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department. Together, we are raising our beautiful 15-year-old daughter. Our home is filled with even more love, thanks to our many rescue kitties and our adventurous Veiled Chameleon. Over the past 20+ years that I’ve been fortunate enough to work with a diverse array of animals, from all types of domestic pets to dolphins, North American River Otters, sharks, birds of prey, parrots, flamingos, meerkats, hippos, lions, and even hyenas, each encounter has enriched my life.
Trying to explain why I like working with animals is like trying to explain why I like chocolate, but just being able to enrich their lives through my work is the best part, only deepening my empathy for the wonderful creatures we share our world with. As I've traveled down various career paths, I always come back to my roots, as this was what I was put on this earth to do.
