Former Trainer of Winter the Dolphin!

Former Edge of Africa Trainer at Busch Gardens Tampa

A Calling Rooted in Compassion

I grew up in Wisconsin, where my love for animals first took root. At just three years old, I begged my mother to let me bring home a frozen pheasant I had found in the snow — a moment that quietly revealed what would become my life’s calling. That innate connection to animals has guided every chapter of my journey. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I moved to Florida in 2007 to pursue Marine Mammal Training. I had the extraordinary privilege of serving as a staff caretaker and trainer for Winter the Dolphin at Clearwater Marine Aquarium — an experience that shaped my understanding of trust, behavioral science, and the subtle language animals use to communicate.

Experience That Extends Beyond the Ordinary

For more than 25 years, I’ve worked with an incredibly diverse range of species — from beloved family pets to dolphins, North American river otters, sharks, birds of prey, parrots, flamingos, meerkats, hippos, lions, and hyenas. My professional path has also included enriching roles at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, further expanding my expertise in animal behavior, enrichment, and advanced care. While earning my degree, I supported myself through professional pet care, working with cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, reptiles, and fish. Those early years were foundational — teaching me not only responsibility, but intuition. Because truly working with animals requires more than knowledge of breeds or physiology. It requires the ability to observe, interpret energy, and respond with clarity and compassion. Animals communicate constantly — through posture, movement, breath, and behavior. Understanding that unspoken language is something I have always naturally excelled at.

A Special Place in My Heart

I have a deep connection with felines and remain devoted to rescuing cats on the euthanasia list through Hillsborough County Animal Services. Cats are exquisitely sensitive and energetically aware — qualities I respect deeply and understand intuitively.

At the same time, I find immense fulfillment working with large-breed dogs. Their gentle giant nature, loyalty, and grounding presence are endlessly rewarding.

My approach is rooted in empathy, structure, and trust — always honoring the individual personality of each animal.

Beyond the Work

When I’m not caring for clients’ pets, I cherish time outdoors — whether saltwater fly-fishing or simply immersed in nature. I’m passionate about writing, art, music, and holistic wellness. I’m also incredibly grateful for my supportive husband, who shares my love for animals. Together, we’re raising our beautiful daughter in a home filled with rescue kitties and our adventurous veiled chameleon.

My Purpose

Trying to explain why I love working with animals is like trying to explain why I love chocolate — it’s simply part of who I am.

Enriching their lives.

Earning their trust.
Strengthening the bond between pets and their families.

No matter where my career has taken me, I’ve always returned to this work.

Because it isn’t just what I do.

It’s what I was put here to do.
